Safety Alert For All Consumers

 

 

 

 

 

  • In 2009 there was 376 reported deaths and an estimated 131,900 emergency-room treated injuries.
  • No one under 18 is to operate an ATV on public land unless they are in possession of a safety certificate or with an adult who possesses a safety certificate.  
  • No one under 14 may operate an ATV on public land unless they are accompanied and directly supervised by a parent/guardian, or an adult who is authorized by the parent/guardian.
  • No one under 14 may operate an ATV on public land unless they or the adult directly supervising them possesses a safety certificate.
  • No one under the age of 16 may operate an ADULT SIZE ATV.
  • Ride an ATV that is age-appropriate. The guidelines are:
     
    • Age 5 and under are prohibited from riding ATVs
    • Age 6 and older: Under 70cc
    • Age 12 and older: 70cc to 90cc
    • Age 16 and older: Over 90cc
       
  • For safety precautions, have a certified automotive/motorcycle technician assemble and inspect your ATV to ensure it is in proper and safe condition to be used.
  • All operators on public lands are required to wear a DOT-helmet and protective gears at all times.
  • PASSENGERS PROHIBITED. NEVER CARRY A PASSENGER, except when the ATV is designed for a passenger.
  • ATVs are made for OFF-ROAD USE ONLY. Use on public streets, roads, or highways is prohibited by law (Review Local State and Federal Laws). You may only cross them when done safely and permitted by law.
  • Ride only on designated trails and at a safe speed.
  • Never ride under the influence of alcohol and/or other drugs.
  • Gasoline is flammable. Shut off engine and allow it to cool, avoid sparks and open flames when refueling.

  • All ATVs are required to be titled and registered with the owner receiving a numbered plate for the ATV.
  • Registration is to be renewed once each year.

Dealer Safety Guidelines

 

  • All dealers must ABIDE all ATV Safety Guidelines and Standards. This include:
    • Providing Safety Guidelines during point of purchase.
    • Sales Personnel must know the Safety Guidelines.
    • Following age requirements when selling to a consumer.
    • Offering ATV Training to new drivers.
  • Dealers must be able to provide Information and Education about ATV use.
